Magnitude 8 Post: The Technology Behind Our Decades of Dubs: Sunday 9:00Am Sai’s Hangout (Meridian D)

host: Les Claypool

From the humble beginnings of a hard rock guitar player maxing out credit cards to cluelessly buy semi-recording gear for his funky garage “studio”, to eventually owning multiple, fully outfitted, post-production recording studios that specialized in dubbing anime and games was quite an amusing technological journey. Join Les Claypool for a panel packed full of behind-the-scenes photos, scans and stories documenting the whole wild ride. This occasionally random, sometimes ridiculous, and always expensive trip includes: using a little 8-track analog take deck (with original track sheet scans) showing how crazy it was attempting to find track space for all of the actors in those early episodes, coming up with the first “high tech” helmet voice process, having to buy a new profit killing digital tape deck for Ghost in the Shell, the first (less than reliable) computer based systems, numerous studio photos, the insane amount of gear that ended up in e-waste, and how the last project of the studio before closing ended up being about as low-tech as possible to achieve the highest quality end result!

Vintage Dance Lessons with Clockwork and Gears Vintage Dancing: Friday 5:30pm Starlight Lounge (Twilight 1/2)

host: Clockworks and Gears Vintage Dancing

Clockworks and Gears Vintage Dancing started with a basic waltz and a hat-full of interest. Since then, the repertoire has grown to include dances barely heard of to iconic dances from movies like Pride and Prejudice. Members have been finding, teaching, and preforming these period pieces for audiences at Anime Banzai, SteamFest, Winter Faire, and Utah Renaissance Faire, to name a few.
