Come dance the night away at the Anime Banzai Formal Ball!

Enter the competition or just attend for fun of it! 

Find out below all the rules and regulations of the Anime Banzai Ball and, if you are entering the Royalty Contest, what our anonymous judges will be looking for!  

Rules And Regulations

To ensure this is a pleasant and formal experience for everyone attending, there are dress and behavior standards in place.

 All attendees must adhere to the dress code and behavior standards below. Staff will ask you to comply at the door. Accommodations can be made if necessary. 

The Formal Ball is included with the price of an Anime Banzai pre-reg badge, weekend badge, VIP badge, and Friday Badge. If you would like to just attend the Formal Ball, a separate ticket can be purchased.

Dress Code: 


ALL outfits must be formal in nature, including dresses, pants, skirts, tops, and shoes. The dress code can be modified to suit disability or external circumstances if needed, please let a staff member know.

Must be dress-pants, formal trousers, uniform pants/slacks, and/or  black jeans (no rips). NO shorts, blue jeans, skater pants, etc.

Must be dress button-up shirts or blouses. No polos, sports, or t-shirts.

  • Must be formal in nature, no rips or tears. Length should be down to your fingertips or longer. 
  • For dresses or skirts with side slits, the slit should go no higher than where your wrist naturally falls at your side. 
  • Dress Bodices should not show excessive cleavage.
  • Must be formal, closed-toed, or traditional Japanese footwear (Geta). Shoes that don’t meet these requirements will be turned away and asked to change. 
  • To fit with this year’s theme, Grecian/Roman etc. style sandals are accepted, flip flops and other outdoor sandals are not accepted.
  • The following are considered appropriate formal footwear: dressy sandals, pumps, flats, boots, high heels, and dress shoes. Note: Geta may be worn as part of a traditional Japanese cosplay.
  • Cosplay is welcome (and encouraged), as long as it meets the dress code requirements. Some adjustments may be allowed to fit the character specifically. However, staff will have the final say if it is allowed.
  • Fursuits are welcome, but they must be wearing clothing that complies with the dress code.
  • Traditional Japanese clothing is acceptable but it must be worn properly and respectfully.
  • Formal Military Uniforms are acceptable. Fantasy armor is not accepted.
  • Formal neckwear is encouraged, but not required. (Ties, cravats, bowties)
  • Any body paint must be sealed.
  • Wings are allowed, but may not exceed 1 (one) foot on either side (measured from your spine) folded or extended.
  • Respect the other attendees and staff.
  • No harassment of any kind. This will not be tolerated. You will be escorted out and asked to leave Anime Banzai. If you are being harassed, please find staff or security. 
  • Keep all dancing appropriate in nature, actions should not expose undergarments or excess skin.
  • This is a family friendly event, please be mindful of language and actions. Inappropriate behavior of any kind is not allowed. 
  • Undergarments must not be visible or used as outerwear. 
  • Hemlines must be neat, no hanging threads
  • No large props that could be hazardous 
  • No extreme cleavage or view of breasts (side, under, etc.)
  • Shirts may not be unbuttoned.
  • No casual or informal dance clothing.
  • Sneakers, tennis shoes, outdoor sandals, and flip flops 
  • Slits that go more than several inches above the knee are inappropriate.
  • Bare/sheer mid-drifts do not meet the formal ball dress code. Solid/non-transparent material should be used to fully cover mid-drifts..
  • Fursuits (alone) are not permitted

There will be three mystery judges waltzing through the ball to find the perfect King and Queen. You will need to pick up a number and fill out a liability form to be considered. Apply as a couple.

All participants must be signed up and visibly wear their number/letter through the entirety of the ball. To be considered for crowning you must be present during the announcement of King, Queen, Prince and Princess. It will be stated at the beginning of the ball when crowning will occur. You may only sign up to be a participant of one contest. The King, Queen, Prince and Princess will be asked to participate in a special dance and will receive a crown and an exclusive Anime Banzai glass.

This will be based on audience choice. You will need to pick up a letter and fill out a liability form to be considered. Make sure to have all your friends write your letter on their ballot and drop it in the ballot box for a chance to be crowned Banzai royalty. Winners might not know each other.

  • Does your cosplay/formal match the theme? This will be judged out of ten points 
  • Have you been dancing through the ball or have you been a wallflower? This will be judged out of ten points
  • Have you tried to get people to dance? This will be judged out of ten points
  • What does your overall formal appearance look like? This will be judged out of ten points

This year Anime Banzai will be hosting a Fantasy themed informal Dance. Great music will fill the air and lights will flash for a fun night of dancing and music. Then join us for this year’s informal dance with DJ No Nice Things!
