Art Show
Come one! Come all! Banzai’s Art Show is here for everyone to enjoy! Got creative skills you want to razzle dazzle the crowds with? Need a quiet space to enjoy the talents of fellow con attendees (and maybe buy a few to add to you collection)? Feel a hankering to help out some fuzzy friends? Then step right up, the Art Show is the place for you!
The Art Show Contest is the place for Con-goers to show off their artistic skills, whether they be fan-art or original. It’s also a chance to win prizes and sell your artwork.
We accept artwork done in the themes of Anime, Japanese culture, video games, and variations thereof.
Art entries can range from 2D art: drawing, painting, digital graphics, photography, etc.; to 3D creations like sculptures, sewing, crochet, and other various craft projects.
IMPORTANT: Fan art is allowed as long as it doesn’t mirror official art. Nothing made using a pre-existing pattern is allowed! Must be an original work created by you.
Please contact us at [email protected].

If you are entering the Art Show (or even if you’re not) please consider donating something (artwork or other) for the charity. We accept both new and used good-condition items, as well as artwork of all mediums. Charity items are not part of the voting contest nor will the donor receive any money. Contest Rules
Terms and conditions for entries
Entries will be accepted in the themes of Anime/Manga, Asian culture, Video Games, Halloween, Dia de los Muertos, and Banzai’s current year theme.
Anime Banzai is a family friendly con, nothing that could be over PG-13 is allowed. Art Show staff will be the judge.
All pieces entered must be original artwork. Fan art is allowed as long as it’s an original design/scene/pose, No Swipes (see below).
Nothing A.I. generated is allowed.
Craft/sewing pieces must be your own design, nothing using a pre-existing pattern or a kit is allowed.
Photography entries are allowed on a limited basis. (see below)
Participation and art drop-off
You must have a convention badge to enter the show.
Participation in the show is open to all convention attendees, as well as any member of the convention staff or volunteer crew.
Artists can choose to label their art ‘For Sale’ or ‘Not for Sale’.
There is no fee to enter the Art Show Contest. However, 10% of all art sold through the show will be kept by Anime Banzai as a consignment fee.
The Art Show is for unique, single pieces of artwork; not bulk sale. You may attach a card with your information, but you can not do sales through Art Show. See Artist Alley for that.
Prints are allowed, but you may only have one of each individual piece in the show.
There is a maximum of 4 entries per person.
Space availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Flat artwork
Pencil/ink drawing, oil/acrylic painting, watercolor, digital graphics, photography, etc.
All 2-D, flat artwork must be mounted, matted, or framed, and suitable for hanging. You must use heavy stock mattes, foam board, or frames. You may not use construction paper, thin paper backings, or sheet protectors/lamination. If a piece is deemed unsuitable, as determined by the Art Show staff, it will not be allowed in the show.
Pieces will be suspended with clips or hooks, please prepare your pieces accordingly. We will provide hooks and clips to hang your works, however, we will not be held responsible for any damage to any artwork that is not made suitable for hanging by the artist.
For safety reasons, we will not allow any submissions that contain glass that cannot be hung with hooks, nor will we allow any submissions to sit on the floor. Exceptions may be granted for any freestanding submissions; these, however, will need to be cleared beforehand through the Art Show staff.
Any work that requires special care or display apparatus will need to be provided by the artist.
These requirements are to ensure the safety of the patrons and the artwork.
Photography
Due to photography’s ability to mirror its subject, photographs of Cosplay will be subject to review. We would like the photo to be viewed for the skill of the photographer, not for the cosplay of the subject. Photographs of cosplay that have been manipulated to enhance the theme or mood of the piece will be acceptable, again, upon review by the Art Show staff.
Photography entries can be submitted before Anime Banzai opening for review. All others will be reviewed at the con by the Art Show staff.
Swipes and digital A.I.
A swipe is a direct copy of official art, screenshot, or other fan-art. Any piece that is determined to be a swipe will be removed from the show.
No A.I. created art is allowed. Digital artwork must be your own design and created by you.
Models/Sculptures
Clay, plaster, epoxy/resin, wood, metal, etc. 3D printed items must have been fully designed by you, not just a remix of another design. All free-standing 3-D works should have good support. These pieces will be placed on available table space.
Other 3D mediums
Amigarum/plushies, knitted/crochet pieces, cross-stitch/needlepoint, sewing, and paper crafts must all come from your own design. Items that are made from a pre-existing pattern will be disqualified.
Molds and pre-fabricated forms
If your base is from a mold you didn’t design or was bought pre-formed it must be basic enough that the way you painted/decorated it is the most important part and what is being judged. Miniatures and fully stylized bases that have just been basically painted go against our no pre-existing pattern policy.
Selling art
It is up to you, the seller of the art, to determine how much you want to sell your art for.
If you wish to sell your art you must clearly mark a Sale price.
Please be aware that once you set a price you must sell that piece at that price if there is a bid placed. Just as a buyer cannot flake on their bid, you cannot take back or change the sale price or the piece of art once that bid is met. Please note that if your work sells, it’s sold and that’s that.
Artists are responsible for paying any applicable sales tax for items sold.
Artists whose work is sold will be given a tax form which must be filled out and mailed in to the IRS. The IRS will charge you a fine if you do not turn it in.
Artist pick-up
Artists must be able to pick-up their artwork (or money if sold) on Sunday, between 4 PM and 5 PM.
Artwork picked up before the official Art Pickup on Sunday will be ineligible to receive any awards/prizes.
Art may only be entered by the artists themselves, or by an agent/proxy acting on behalf of the artist. The agent information on the sign-in sheet will apply to any person who enters art on behalf of an artist, and/or picks up art on the artist’s behalf.
We will not release any art to anyone other than the artists themselves or the agent acting on behalf of the artist listed on the sign-in sheet.
ID is required to pick up artwork/money! If someone other than the artist/agent is sent they must have the ID of the artist/agent.
Any artwork that is not picked up by 5 PM on Sunday will become property of Anime Banzai and will be disposed of at the discretion of and in a manner chosen by the Convention staff.
